iPhone 16 series may undergo significant changes in design and display sizes according to a recent leak. The Pro models, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, are expected to have larger displays, while the non-Pro models, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, might feature a new camera alignment. If these changes are true, it would mark a departure from Apple’s consistent design and display approach over the past three years. Additionally, rumors suggest that the iPhone 16 series may come with capacitive buttons this year.
Sonny Dickson, a reliable tipster, shared an image on X (formerly known as Twitter) showcasing the new design and display sizes. According to the leaked images, iPhone 16 Pro could sport a 6.3-inch display, an increase from the 6.1-inch display on iPhone 15 Pro. Similarly, iPhone 16 Pro Max is rumored to feature a 6.9-inch display, up from the 6.7-inch display on its predecessor. On the other hand, iPhone 16 is expected to retain its 6.1-inch display, while iPhone 16 Plus will maintain the 6.7-inch display size.
The potential display size upgrades may please some users, but those who prefer smaller phones might be disappointed. Aside from the display changes, the tipster also revealed a new camera alignment for the non-Pro models.
Instead of the diagonal camera module seen on previous models like iPhone 13, iPhone 14, and iPhone 15, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could feature a vertically aligned module, akin to iPhone 11 and iPhone 12. Furthermore, a unique change is the LED flash being positioned outside the module.
Rumors suggest that the vertical camera alignment is intended to enable spatial video recording on the non-Pro iPhone 16 models. While details are scarce, some other features of Apple’s upcoming iPhone generation have surfaced online. Reports indicate that the iPhone 16 series may introduce capacitive buttons, replacing the physical power button and volume rockers. These buttons were initially expected in the iPhone 15 series but were reportedly scrapped. Additionally, the Action button, currently exclusive to Pro models, is speculated to be present on all iPhone 16 models.
