Quando Rondo’s Status Comes Into Focus After Lil Durk Trial Verdict

Bharatmorning.com – A Los Angeles federal jury has found rapper Lil Durk not guilty on all charges in his closely watched murder-for-hire case, renewing attention on Quando Rondo, the artist prosecutors said was the intended target of a 2022 shooting.

Lil Durk, born Durk Devontay Banks, had faced allegations tied to an alleged plan to kill Quando Rondo. The jury returned its verdict on Friday after deliberating for three days. Closing arguments in the case had wrapped on Tuesday, September 8.

Quando Rondo, whose legal name is Tyquian Bowman, was not charged in Lil Durk’s federal case. Even so, his name remained central to the proceedings because of the alleged connection between the two artists and the fatal Los Angeles attack at the heart of the accusations.

Quando Rondo Is Completing His Federal Sentence

Bowman is currently in community confinement after serving part of a federal prison sentence connected to a separate drug case. He entered federal custody in late 2024 after pleading guilty that year to one count of conspiracy to possess and distribute marijuana.

He received a 33-month prison term and a $40,000 fine. Before entering community confinement, Bowman spent 15 months at Edgefield Federal Correctional Institution in South Carolina.

He has since been moved to a residential re-entry center in Atlanta, commonly referred to as a halfway house. Such facilities are intended to help people transition from prison back into the community while they complete the remaining portion of their sentences.

The agreement in Bowman’s drug case significantly narrowed the allegations he originally faced. He had initially been accused in a broader conspiracy involving methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and marijuana. That more serious count was withdrawn as part of his plea deal; it had carried the possibility of a 20-year prison sentence.

His Apology at Sentencing

At his sentencing hearing, Bowman addressed the impact of the case on those close to him and offered an apology to Savannah, his hometown, and to his family.

“I really want to give an apology to the city of Savannah... and most of all my daughters,” Bowman told the court.

The sentencing marked a major interruption in the career of an artist who had developed a sizable audience before his incarceration. His best-known releases include “I Remember,” featuring Lil Baby, “ABG” and “Imperfect Flower.” He also appeared on YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s successful track “I Am Who They Say I Am.”

Bowman released his studio album Here for a Reason shortly before reporting to prison.

Why Bowman Was Relevant to Lil Durk’s Case

Although Bowman was not a defendant in the case against Banks, prosecutors presented the 2022 Los Angeles shooting as the alleged basis for the murder-for-hire charges. They claimed masked gunmen had targeted Bowman during the incident.

The attack did not kill Bowman. Instead, his cousin, Robinson, was killed. The death became a key element of the allegations involving Banks, whose acquittal brings the federal criminal case against him to a significant turning point.

The verdict does not alter Bowman’s separate sentence or his current placement in community confinement. His case involves a distinct federal prosecution, while the Lil Durk trial centered on allegations surrounding the Los Angeles shooting.

A Rivalry Rooted in Earlier Events

The tensions linked to Lil Durk and Quando Rondo go back to November 2020, when Chicago rapper King Von was killed outside an Atlanta nightclub. King Von, a close associate of Lil Durk, died after being shot during an altercation involving people connected to Bowman.

Bowman was never charged in King Von’s death. Still, the incident intensified conflict between the two artists’ circles and formed an important backdrop to the later allegations involving the 2022 shooting.

For followers of both performers, the cases illustrate how separate legal matters became publicly intertwined through a long-running dispute. Bowman’s current circumstances are tied to the marijuana conspiracy conviction, while the trial involving Lil Durk concerned allegations that were ultimately rejected by the jury.

As Bowman completes the remainder of his sentence in a residential re-entry setting, he remains a prominent figure in the broader story because of the personal and professional history surrounding the two camps. The not-guilty verdict for Lil Durk closes one chapter of that story, but Bowman’s own federal sentence remains in effect.
