Woman, son killed as speeding tanker hits two-wheeler in Virar
Mother and Young Son Die After Tanker Strikes Family’s Two-Wheeler in Virar
Bharatmorning.com – A family’s visit to the Jeevdani temple in Virar West ended in tragedy on Monday morning after a water tanker collided with their two-wheeler near Kopri Naka. Kavita Pal, 28, and her four-year-old son Aariv died in the crash, while her husband Dharmendra Pal and their seven-year-old son Ayansh were injured.
The family lived in Jeevan Nagar in Nalasopara East. Dharmendra Pal, 30, had been travelling with his wife and their two sons toward the temple when the collision took place at about 9am.
Crash Near Kopri Naka
The family of four was riding on a single two-wheeler when a speeding water tanker hit the vehicle from behind near Kopri Naka. The impact threw all four occupants onto the road.
Kavita was carrying Aariv in her arms at the time of the collision. Both suffered fatal injuries when the tanker ran over them. Residents nearby responded quickly and took the injured mother and child to a hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
“Their four-year-old son was in Kavita Pal’s arms, and the tanker ran over their heads, causing them to die instantly,” a police officer said.
Dharmendra Pal and Ayansh were injured in the incident. Details of the nature of their injuries were not immediately available.
Driver Arrested
Virar police reached the accident site after receiving information about the collision. The tanker driver, identified as Shamsher Zuber Ali, was arrested in connection with the case.
Senior police inspector Lalu Ture said Ali has been booked under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with causing death through negligence.
The case will examine the circumstances leading to the tanker striking the two-wheeler, including the vehicle’s speed and the events immediately before the impact. The crash has drawn fresh attention to the danger posed by fast-moving heavy vehicles on roads used by two-wheelers, pedestrians and local families.
Renewed Concerns Over Heavy Vehicles
The Virar tragedy follows another serious tanker-related crash in the area just days earlier. On Saturday, a 60-year-old man was killed after a tanker struck the two-wheeler on which he was travelling with his wife. His wife sustained severe injuries in that incident.
Two-wheelers remain especially vulnerable in collisions involving tankers and other heavy vehicles. Unlike occupants of cars, riders have little physical protection in a crash, and a rear-end impact can quickly cause riders or passengers to be thrown into the path of larger vehicles.
The deaths of Kavita Pal and Aariv are also a stark reminder of the risks families face when several people travel together on a two-wheeler. The journey to a place of worship was meant to be a routine morning outing, but it turned fatal within moments near a busy local junction.
Road safety concerns often intensify after crashes involving water tankers because of their size, weight and frequent movement through residential and commercial stretches. Safe speeds, careful overtaking, adequate distance from smaller vehicles and greater caution around junctions are essential for drivers of heavy vehicles operating in areas with mixed traffic.
For residents, the incidents underline the importance of sustained attention to road conditions and vehicle behaviour in Virar. The latest crash has left one family grieving the loss of a mother and a young child while two other members recover from injuries.
