Etawah DFO, driver killed in accident on Agra-Lko expressway
Etawah Forest Officer and Driver Die After Expressway Collision
Bharatmorning.com – Etawah divisional forest officer Vikas Nayak and his driver, Devansh, died after a serious crash on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway on Tuesday. The collision took place in Firozabad district, within the Nagla Khangar police station area, and involved two four-wheelers travelling in opposite directions.
The DFO’s SUV was heading towards Agra from Lucknow when another vehicle crossed through the central divider and struck it. The second four-wheeler had been travelling from Haryana towards Lucknow before it entered the opposite carriageway.
Emergency response at the 69-kilometre marker
Police received an alert through the 112 emergency service at 10.45am. The accident site was identified near the 69-kilometre marker of the expressway, under the jurisdiction of Nagla Khangar.
Responding officers found five people injured following the impact. All were taken to the medical college at Saifai for treatment, with three initially described as being in critical condition.
“The police, on reaching the spot, found the accident was caused because of a collision between two four-wheelers leaving five injured who were rushed to medical college at Saifai. Three of the injured were in critical condition,” stated Chanchal Tyagi, deputy superintendent of police for Firozabad’s Sirsaganj circle.
Nayak and Devansh later succumbed to their injuries. A 65-year-old woman travelling in the DFO’s SUV was also critically hurt. She is the mother of an officer in the forest department.
Vehicle reportedly crossed the divider
Initial police information indicated that the vehicle travelling towards Lucknow may have crossed the divider after its driver apparently fell asleep. It then entered the carriageway used by traffic moving in the other direction and collided with the SUV carrying Nayak.
The crash illustrates the severe consequences of a wrong-side collision on a high-speed expressway. When a vehicle breaches a median and moves into opposing traffic, drivers in the affected lane can have little time to react, particularly where traffic is moving at expressway speeds.
Investigators are carrying out the required legal formalities connected with the accident. The immediate circumstances, including the reported possibility that the other driver dozed off, form part of the information being examined after the collision.
“Two critically injured succumbed. One of them was identified as Vikas Nayak who was presently the DFO at Etawah and the other deceased was identified as his driver Devansh,” said DSP Chanchal Tyagi.
A loss for the Etawah forest administration
Nayak was serving as the divisional forest officer in Etawah at the time of his death. The DFO is a key field-level post in the forest administration, with responsibilities connected to the management and oversight of a forest division. His death, along with that of his driver, has brought a fatal end to a journey that began in Lucknow and was bound for Agra.
The accident also left other occupants and people involved in the collision requiring medical attention. The focus remains on treatment for those injured, including the woman reported to be in critical condition.
For road users, the incident is a reminder of the importance of avoiding fatigue while driving. Drowsiness can reduce concentration, delay responses and affect control of a vehicle. On long intercity routes, drivers may need to recognise signs of tiredness early and take a break rather than continue when alertness has fallen.
The tragedy occurred on a route intended to support fast travel between major cities, but the circumstances underline that speed and distance can intensify the danger when a vehicle loses control or enters an opposing lane. Police action at the scene ensured that the injured were shifted for urgent medical care while the crash was taken up for further procedure.
